Terrorism and Islam

By Yousuf Saleh - 20th November 2015

Respected brothers and sisters, at the beginning of this articlewe strongly condemn the terrorist attack which killed 129 people at various locations across Paris last Friday night with more than 340 injured and many remaining in critical condition. The terrorist group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks, and they vowed to do the same in other places in the World.

“These terrorist acts are completely contrary to the peace and the tranquillity of the actual message of Islam. We condemn all the terrorist attacks without ‘buts,' without 'ifs' and without hiding behind any excuses.”

Respected brothers and sisters, Terrorism is the antonym word of Islam, Peace.

Number one: The Essence of Islam is Peace. The last prophet Mohammad (Puh) was sent down as RAHMATULLILA’LAMIN Mercy for the worlds. After Every Salah we are encouraged to supplicate to Allah by saying” "ALLAHUMMA ANTA SALAAM, WA MINKA SALAAM, TABARAKTA YAA DHAL JALALI WAL IKRAAAM " which means: "O Allah, You are the source of peace and from You comes peace, exalted You are, O Lord of Majesty and Honour." Islamic greetings “Peace be upon you” Farther more there is no doubt that the spread of safety and peace throughout the society is necessary, it is more important than food and drink. For this reason Prophet Ibrahim (Puh) gave priority to safety over provision in His supplication, mentioned (2:126) “O Allah, make this land safe and provide its inhabitants with fruits of sustenance.” This is because people do not enjoy food and drink in the presence of fear. So, Human beings need peace in every aspect and moments of life. This is why Allah selected the religion of peace which is Islam for all human beings at all times. Any kind of Terrorism nullifies the purpose of Islam. All the battles of the Prophets occurred to establish peace and justice in the society. The people who attack innocent civilians and take many innocent lives abruptly, they justify their evil act with the name of Islam, but in actual they are Muslim by namesake only. People who kill innocent people, they grosslyviolate the sanctity of Islam. By doing this they become the greatest enemies of Allah and the greatest enemies of humanity.

Number Two: Innocent life is sacred, regardless of race, creed, colour, religion, nationality, or ethnicity. It is Allah who grants life to whomever He pleases, and no one has a legitimate right to take that life unjustly. When people die, other people's lives are affected. When innocent people are mercilessly killed it increases the disaster and it causes various types of fithna and trials. And when the name of Islam or Muslims are linked up with this most evil and deadly sin, people become scared about Islam, they are afraid of Muslims. Which is contrary to the divine and the practical nature of Islam. So, the acts of terrorists hinders People from uniting under the umbrella of Peace and Islam. The terrorists are the biggest enemies of Islam and Muslims than anyone else.

Number three: For this reason, Allah designated the most severe punishment for those who cut off the roots of Peace from the Society. In ch-(5:33) Allah (swt) said “Indeed, the penalty for those who make war against Allah and His messenger and strive upon earth to cause corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.” Islam came with injunctions that preserve the five necessities and they are: religion, life, intellect, honour and wealth. It designates stern punishments for the one who transgresses against these necessities.

Number Four: Islam does not allow to take revenge from anyone. Before Islam, during the time of ignorance people used to take revenge upon an innocent person in the lieu of another’s crime. Islam prohibited this. If a country becomes involved in killing the innocents anywhere in the world, it is an obvious crime and completely abhorrent to Islam and humanity.

But Islam does not allow killing innocents in lieu of killings or any other crimes of others. This is one of the Principles of Islam which has been observed by the representatives of Islam throughout time. This is why these attacks, like the Paris attacks, are not permitted by any authorities of Islam. These self-leading rebellious crimes are acted out by some disobedient transgressors who are far from the teachings of Islam, although unfortunately they are Muslim by name only.

Number Five: Respected brothers and sisters, condemning violence against innocent souls is an appropriate Muslim response as it falls into the category of enjoining the good and forbidding evil (al-amrbilma'roofwaannah'yi an al-munkar). However, keeping silent is not the way of Islam. We Muslims are in fact, morally outraged about the terrible slaughter inParis, we are equally outraged when it happens in Palestine, in Burma in Iraq or any other places in the worlds.

Lastly I would like to mention again that we denounce this hateful incident, we show our solidarity to our neighbour country.

Every Muslim should stand against all types of Terrorisms and be a part of establishing peace in the societies and in the world.

May Allah bless you all.
